Basketball Recap: Mccutcheon Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

McCutcheon had won two straight games and Brody Baker did his part to make it three on Saturday. The McCutcheon Mavericks really took it to the Kankakee Valley Kougars for the full four quarters, racking up a 78-44 victory thanks in part to Baker, who went 6-for-10 from beyond the arc on his way to 36 points. His afternoon made it 11 games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points.

Another player making a difference was Owen Souligne, who posted 13 points and six assists. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in assists.

Loss or not, Kankakee Valley got some senior leadership from Bobby Lalonde and Brady Sampson. Lalonde had 18 points, while Sampson went 6-for-10 en route to 15 points and three blocks. Those three blocks set a new season-high mark for Sampson. The team also got some help courtesy of Matt Rose, who earned four points and six assists.

McCutcheon's win bumped their record up to 13-7. As for Kankakee Valley, they dropped their record down to 11-10 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Looking ahead, McCutcheon will head out to face off against Lake Central at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. McCutcheon knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Lake Central likes a good challenge. As for Kankakee Valley, they will be playing at home against 21st Century Charter at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Kankakee Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55 points per game this season.
