Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Kossuth

Kossuth had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Pine Grove on Monday. The Aggies blew past the Panthers 13-5. The Aggies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Hallie Kate Smith made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Emma Franks was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Caliann Mitchell, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Kossuth was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pine Grove only posted a batting average of .276.

The win was the third in a row for Kossuth, bringing their record up to 15-4. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Pine Grove, they dropped their record down to 9-13 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home.

Looking ahead, Kossuth will square off against Booneville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Pine Grove, they are taking a road trip to challenge Wheeler at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
