Baseball Recap: Nonnewaug Comes Up Short

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Nonnewaug and Northwestern Regional meet (five straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Chiefs lost 9-1 to the Highlanders. That's two games in a row now that the Chiefs have lost by exactly eight runs.

Jackson Demers was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, R.J. Barksdale made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one double.

Nonnewaug's loss dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Northwestern Regional, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-3.

Coming up, Nonnewaug will be playing in front of their home fans against Housatonic at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Northwestern Regional, they will square off against Wolcott RVT at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The Highlanders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season.
