Recap: Peyton Panthers vs. The Vanguard School Coursers
The Peyton Panthers pushed their score all the way to 70 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 80-70 to The Vanguard School. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Peyton in their matchups with the Coursers: they've now lost four in a row.
Peyton lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ayden Breese, who almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine rebounds. Michael Perry was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 18 points and nine assists.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead The Vanguard School to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cameron Rowney, who scored 23 points along with eight assists and four steals. Rowney is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Matty Dessalegn, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds.
Peyton's defeat dropped their record down to 8-6. As for The Vanguard School, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Peyton will take on the Highlanders at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for The Vanguard School, they will head out on the road to take on the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. La Junta will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 265th, while the Coursers are ranked 38th).
