With a playoff win on the line, Grace rose to the challenge on Friday. They walked away with a 49-42 victory over the Coachella Valley Mighty Arabs. The win was nothing new for the Lancers as they're now sitting on eight straight.
It was another big night for Jake Williams, who rushed for 220 yards and two scores. He has become a key player for Grace: the team is undefeated when he posts at least 100 rushing yards, but 1-3 otherwise. Landon Cooper also helped with two TDs in total.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Grace was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 241 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 150 rushing yards in eight consecutive games.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Grace's defensive line and their four sacks. Jaxson Berg was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up 2.5 himself. He also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with 13. Another thorn in Coachella Valley's side was Grayer Giuliani-Gibbons, who made 14 total tackles (1.0 for loss).
Despite the loss, Coachella Valley still got an impressive performance from Ivan Camargo, who rushed for 204 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 8.5 yards per carry. Camargo was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 65 yards. Ivan Garza was another major influence, as he rushed for 59 yards and ran in a TD.
Grace's victory bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Coachella Valley, with the defeat, they broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-6.
Grace has already played their next matchup, a 48-16 win against Santa Paula on the 28th. Coachella Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
