Softball Recap: Grant Extends Winning Streak to Three

Grant had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Peabody Warhorses an 18-0 shutout. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Cougars also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2024.

Peyton Kirtland was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Carleigh Roe was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Morgan Middleton was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one double.

Grant was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .720. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.

Grant's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Peabody, they dropped their record down to 3-7 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Grant Cougars duke it out with St. Mary Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Peabody, they will venture away from home to face off against Wossman at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
