Recap: Ridgeway Roadrunners vs. Melrose Golden Wildcats
The Ridgeway Roadrunners waltzed into their matchup Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They came out on top against Melrose by a score of 63-54. This was payback for Ridgeway, who suffered a 68-67 loss the last time these two teams met.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Ridgeway to victory, but perhaps none more so than Emanuel Allen, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds. The game was Allen's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Brian Carter, Jr., who scored 17 points along with five rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Melrose lost, one person who can't be blamed is Devin Sanders Jr. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds. Sanders Jr is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of William Carver, who scored 12 points.
Ridgeway's win bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Melrose, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ridgeway and White Station will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. White Station will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings (they are ranked 111th, while Ridgeway is ranked 26th). Melrose and Kirby will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Kirby will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
