Basketball Recap: Rincon/University Comes Up Short

Rincon/University was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 69-66 heartbreaker at the hands of the Sunnyside Blue Devils. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (62), the Rangers still had to take the loss.

It was another big night for Manuel Moreno, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 12 boards for Sunnyside. Those 12 rebounds gave Moreno a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jose Nieblas, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards.

Rincon/University's loss dropped their record down to 8-14. As for Sunnyside, they moved to 8-15 with that victory, which also ended their six-game losing streak.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rincon/University will host Marana at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Marana's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for Sunnyside, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Tucson High Magnet School at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Tucson High Magnet School has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
