Basketball Recap: Independence Takes a Loss

Independence was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 35th straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against the South Bulldogs, falling 78-52. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the 76ers of the 72-40 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Independence lost, don't look at Malik Ferguson. Despite the final result, he posted 12 points. Torreon Gordon-Suggs was another key player, putting up nine points.

South got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was John Glover out in front who had 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Marquan Felts-Lipsey, who earned 14 points.

Independence's defeat dropped their record down to 0-13. As for South, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-5.

Independence didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 57-55 loss against Shekinah Christian on the 16th. As for South, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 64-52 win against Eastmoor Academy on the 17th.
