Nansemond-Suffolk Academy is a perfect 10-0 against Hampton Roads Academy since March of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Saints have beaten the Mighty Oaks the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Mighty Oaks has come to flipping the script.

Jayden Stafford made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That double was his first of the season.
In other pitching news, Cam Bergen and Gavin Angelillo dominated on the mound. Bergen went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Angelillo went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most runs Bergen has posted since back in March.
Back at the plate, Cole Goodman and Noah Brooks did most of the damage at the plate: Goodman went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Brooks went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That triple marked the first that Goodman has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Hamilton, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Cape Henry Collegiate hit Hampton Roads Academy with a six-run second inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Navigators took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Dolphins. The Navigators have struggled against the Dolphins recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost meeting.
Hampton Roads Academy also got a good showing from Paul Bennett-Northam, who pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
At the plate, Hampton Roads Academy saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elijah Williams, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.
Nansemond-Suffolk Academy now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Hampton Roads Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.
Nansemond-Suffolk Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Hampton Roads Academy in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 6-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Saints since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
