Basketball Game Preview: Mt. Vernon Wildcats vs. Heritage Hills Patriots

Mt. Vernon hasn't had much luck against Heritage Hills recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Mt. Vernon Wildcats will take on the Heritage Hills Patriots at 7:30 p.m. Mt. Vernon has given up an average of 50.5 points per game this season, so hopefully the team got some defensive drills in this week.

Last Thursday, Mt. Vernon escaped with a win against South Spencer by the margin of a single free throw, 65-64.

Mt. Vernon's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Meyer Robb, who went 7-for-11 en route to 16 points. Thanks to that strong game, Robb now owns an excellent 45.3% field goal percentage. Another player making a difference was Nash Hostetter, who posted 13 points.

Mt. Vernon was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They are 7-3 when they've passed the ball that well.

Meanwhile, Heritage Hills came up short against Princeton on Tuesday and fell 63-52. While losing is never fun, the Patriots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 106th, while the Tigers are ranked 23rd).

The victory got Mt. Vernon back to even at 12-12. As for Heritage Hills, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-8.

Mt. Vernon came up short against Heritage Hills in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, falling 62-57. Can Mt. Vernon avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
