Basketball Recap: Hoopeston Comes Up Short

Hoopeston won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Thursday. They lost 56-33 to the Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin Blue Devils. While losing is never fun, the Cornjerkers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 343rd, while the Blue Devils are ranked 91st).

When it comes to explaining why Hoopeston lost, don't look at Trenton Montez. Despite the final result, he went 8 for 13 on his way to 18 points.

Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin had a senior duo take command as Micah Stanford went 6 of 11 en route to 17 points in addition to six assists and four steals and Chaz Dubois almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds. With that strong performance, Stanford is now averaging an impressive 15 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Anderson Thomas, who went 5 for 7 on his way to 10 points.

With the defeat, Hoopeston broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 14-6. As for Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin, the win keeps them at an undefeated 21-0.
