The Lancaster Bruins are taking a road trip to take on the York Cougars at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Lancaster is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
Lancaster fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Blythewood on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bengals by a score of 10-9.
Olyanna Wheeler made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Zoi Chambers, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, York waltzed into their game on Monday with ten straight wins... but they left with 11. They walked away with an 8-3 win over the Cavaliers. Eight seems to be a good number for the Cougars as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Layla Clayton made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Clayton wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Peyton Brooks, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Natalie Dover was another, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
York hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive contests.
York's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Lancaster, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 13 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season.
Both Lancaster and York just can't seem to miss. The Bruins have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.6 hits per game. However, it's not like York struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lancaster suffered a grim 18-5 defeat to York in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Bruins avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
