Baseball Game Preview: Watertown Goslings vs. Monona Grove Silver Eagles

For the second straight game, Watertown will face off against Monona Grove. The Goslings will welcome the Silver Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Watertown is on a three-game streak of home wins, Monona Grove a four-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind.

Watertown came out on top against Monona Grove on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run sixth inning. The Goslings took their matchup against the Silver Eagles 9-5. With that victory, the Goslings brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

Ashton Johnson looked comfortable as he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Calvin Hurtgen, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Davis Cashin was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run.

Watertown has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Monona Grove, their loss dropped their record down to 12-4.
