Baseball Game Preview: Sumner Stingrays vs. Strawberry Crest Chargers

Sumner is 0-3 against Strawberry Crest since April of 2023 but things could change on Saturday. The Sumner Stingrays will square off against the Strawberry Crest Chargers at 1:00 p.m. Sumner will be strutting in after a victory while Strawberry Crest will be coming in after a loss.

Sumner was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Tampa Bay Tech on Thursday. Everything went Sumner's way against Tampa Bay Tech as Sumner made off with an 11-1 win.

Juan OValle looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Winston Pennant, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Cameron Pauquette also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Sumner always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Strawberry Crest fell victim to Plant and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers. The Chargers' loss signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.

Strawberry Crest's defeat dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Sumner, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Sumner has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Strawberry Crest struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 strikeouts.
