Softball Game Preview: Niles West Wolves vs. Whitney Young Dolphins

Niles West hasn't had much luck against Whitney Young recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Wolves will host the Dolphins at 4:30 p.m.

Last Tuesday, Niles West came up short against Buffalo Grove and fell 8-5. The Wolves have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Niles West saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ava Hester, who went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Ava Kolbe was another, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

Meanwhile, Whitney Young made easy work of Amundsen on Wednesday and carried off a 13-4 victory. With that win, the Dolphins brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.

Liani Delgado spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 14 Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Priya Vaishnav, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Itzel Jaime, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-5.

Whitney Young always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .521. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Niles West's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Whitney Young, the victory got them back to even at 4-4-1.

Niles West might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Whitney Young in their previous meeting back in May of 2022. Can the Wolves avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
