Volleyball Recap: Chariho Starts off Right with Win over East Greenwich

Chariho had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They came out on top against the East Greenwich Avengers by a score of 3-1 on Thursday. This was payback for the Chargers, who suffered a 3-0 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Chariho had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 21-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-23.

Chariho's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaxson Vachon, who had 28 digs and three assists. Those 28 digs gave Vachon a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kasey Poplaski, who had 31 assists and five digs.

Despite the loss, East Greenwich saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Rainen Paquet had 19 assists and five digs.

East Greenwich now has a losing record of 1-2.

Chariho has already played their next match, a 3-2 defeat against Cranston West on the 4th. As for East Greenwich, they will take on Cranston East at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
