Softball Recap: Schurr's Victory on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Schurr entered their tilt with San Gabriel on Thursday with six consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with seven. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Matadors a 14-0 shutout. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Spartans also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Melina Sanchez made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Schurr got a massive performance out of Sarah Cervantes, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI Cervantes has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Sarah Romero, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

Schurr was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .389 or higher in five consecutive matchups.

Schurr's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-3-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.4 runs over those games. As for San Gabriel, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Schurr will head out to take on California at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. As for San Gabriel, they will take on Bell Gardens at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Matadors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lancers have averaged an impressive 9.9 runs per game this season.
