Softball Recap: Wellesley Comes Up Short

Millbury hit Wellesley with a four-run fourth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Raiders fell just short of the Woolies by a score of 5-4.

Elizabeth McDonnell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Maya Lee made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple. Another player making a difference was Margaret Redgate, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Wellesley dropped their record down to 8-8 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Millbury, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wellesley will host Framingham at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Flyers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.93 runs per game on average), something the Raiders will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Millbury, they will welcome Bellingham at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
