Basketball Game Preview: Renaissance Phoenix vs. Marian Mustangs

The Renaissance Phoenix will take on the Marian Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Renaissance picked up another tournament win on Friday. They came out on top against Mumford by a score of 60-53. Given the Phoenix's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 26th, while the Mustangs are ranked 140th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Marian entered their tilt with Bloomfield Hills on Friday with four consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with five. They walked away with a 54-45 victory over the Black Hawks.

Renaissance's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-3. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 19.7 points on average over those games. As for Marian, their victory bumped their record up to 9-15.

Everything came up roses for Renaissance against Marian in their previous matchup back in March of 2023, as the squad secured a 63-35 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Marian's Mckenzie Swanson, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds.
