Recap: Jefferson Yellowjackets vs. Buena Vista Bison
The Jefferson Yellowjackets's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fifth straight loss. They fell just short of Buena Vista by a score of 43-40. Jefferson was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Buena Vista apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Despite the defeat, Jefferson had strong showings from Taryn Gant, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds, and Grace Strong, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gant has scored all season.
Buena Vista's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Da'shia Evans, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. That's the first time this season that Evans scored 15 or more points. Zaria Townsend was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with 12 rebounds and three steals.
Jefferson dropped their record down to 1-12 with that defeat, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Buena Vista, their win bumped their record up to 3-11.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jefferson won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Sioux City East at 5:30 p.m. on January 26th. Sioux City East is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games. As for Buena Vista, they will head out on the road to square off against Westview at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Westview focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Saturday.
