Preview: A.L. Brown Wonders vs. South Iredell Vikings
The A.L. Brown Wonders will head out on the road to square off against the South Iredell Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. A.L. Brown will be strutting in after a win while South Iredell will be coming in after a loss.
A.L. Brown posted their closest win yet this season on Wednesday. They skirted past East Rowan 48-45. The win was just what A.L. Brown needed coming off of a 73-18 loss in their prior matchup.
A.L. Brown found their leader in underclassman Makenzie Goode-Roberts, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Goode-Roberts has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Trinity Robinson, who scored three points along with six rebounds and five steals.
South Iredell suffered their biggest loss since December 8, 2023 on Wednesday. They suffered a rough 60-39 defeat at the hands of Hickory Ridge. While losing is never fun, South Iredell can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 277th, while Hickory Ridge is ranked 45th).
Despite the loss, South Iredell had strong showings from Daria Fink, who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds, and Kayden Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played.
A.L. Brown's win bumped their record up to 9-4. As for South Iredell, they bumped their record down to 4-10 with that loss, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.
Tuesday's match is shaping up to be a scrappy contest: A.L. Brown have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 9.8 rebounds per game. It's a different story for South Iredell, though, as they've been averaging only 35.1 rebounds per game. Given A.L. Brown's sizeable advantage in that area, South Iredell will need to find a way to close that gap.
A.L. Brown ended up a good deal behind South Iredell in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, losing 56-41. Can A.L. Brown avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
