Baseball Game Preview: Mahwah Thunderbirds vs. Becton Wildcats

The Mahwah Thunderbirds will square off against the Becton Wildcats at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday. Mahwah will be strutting in after a victory while Becton will be coming in after a loss.

Mahwah is headed into the match having just posted their closest win since April 4th on Friday. They skirted past NV - Demarest 9-7.

Steve Mariani looked comfortable as he tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jake Buonanno, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 4-for-4. Mahwah is 5-1 when Buonanno posts two or more runs, but 3-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Alex Luchynskyi, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles.

Meanwhile, Becton suffered their closest defeat since March 31st on Friday. They fell just short of Wallington by a score of 5-3. Wildcats fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Panthers since on Friday.

Mahwah's victory bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Becton, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.
