League recap: Garcia breaks off league-leading run for Texas Leadership Charter Academy

1A-2 Region II District 6 recap Sept. 26, 2012

Brandon Garcia of Texas Leadership Charter Academy ran for the longest rushing play in 1A-2 Region II District 6 this season against Chico last week. Garcia's team lost to the Dragons as he sprinted for 85 yards on the play and finished with 112 in all.

Eldorado was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fifth in the league. The Eagles defeated the Eagles 12-7 earlier in the week.

Irion County's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Vicente Gomez threw for 97 yards and Logan McGee had 38 yards receiving. On the ground Gomez chipped in 209 yards. Reb Sullenger helped Irion County's passing attack out by catching one ball for 24 yards.

The Hornets' Gomez and McGee have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Gomez has thrown for 242 yards this season, while McGee, a 5-foot-8 receiver, has four catches for 87 yards. Texas Leadership Charter Academy's Garcia leads the league in rushing yards with 788.

A big matchup in 1A-2 Region II District 6 this week will be when Bronte takes on Eldorado. As it stands, the Longhorns are in third, while Danny Wilhelm's team is in fifth.

Christoval moved up to 955 from 1,037 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Cougars climbed the ranks as a result of a 64-7 win over the Cougars.
