Basketball Recap: Tremont's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Tremont needed a changed in momentum after dropping four straight games and they got it from Olivia Gillespie. The Tremont Eagles simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Tupelo Christian Prep Eagles 49-14 thanks in part to Gillespie, who went 9 for 15 on her way to 20 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Tremont's points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Paige Gillespie, who posted no points along with seven assists and seven steals. She has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 11 times she's played.

Tremont's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 7-5. As for Tupelo Christian Prep, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

When Tremont and Tupelo Christian Prep next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Tremont will try to stop Brilliant's five-game winning streak when the meet at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Similarly, Tupelo Christian Prep will try to stop Pine Grove's five-game winning streak when the meet at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
