Baseball Recap: St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy Comes Up Short

St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy dropped their record down to 8-16 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They came up short against the Bosco Tech Tigers, falling 19-5. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, with their most recent loss being a 13-3 defeat back in March.

Joshua Rios made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Eleazar Garcia also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

As for Bosco Tech, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 18 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.

On Bosco Tech's side, David Gomez was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Gomez has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Adam Velasquez was excellent, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Daniel Longoria, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 16-3 win against St. Genevieve on the 2nd. As for Bosco Tech, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 9-4 victory against Mary Star of the Sea on the 5th.
