Basketball Game Preview: North Newton Spartans vs. Tri-County Cavaliers

The North Newton Spartans will take on the Tri-County Cavaliers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

North Newton will bounce into Thursday's contest after beating Rensselaer Central, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. North Newton skirted past Rensselaer Central 45-42. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Spartans have posted since December 18, 2023.

North Newton's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jackson Alexander, who went 6 for 12 en route to 18 points. Those 18 points gave Alexander a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jared Kutsch, who posted eight points and three steals.

North Newton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Tri-County was able to grind out a solid victory over Caston on Saturday, taking the game 42-35. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cavaliers.
