Preview: SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars vs. Farmville Central Jaguars
SouthWest Edgecombe is 2-8 against Farmville Central since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars will be playing at home against the Farmville Central Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. SouthWest Edgecombe will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive.
In what's become a running theme this season, SouthWest Edgecombe gave their fans yet another huge victory on Saturday. They breezed by Tarboro at home to the tune of 55-15. Given SouthWest Edgecombe's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 130th, while Tarboro is ranked 497th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
SouthWest Edgecombe relied on the efforts of Aaliyah Whitehead, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten steals, and Kd Collins, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 steals. Collins is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of A'Chonacey (Chonie) Mabry, who scored four points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Farmville Central suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Tuesday. They had to suffer through a rough 73-29 loss at the hands of North Pitt. Farmville Central has struggled against North Pitt recently, as their game on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Loss or not, Farmville Central got some senior leadership from Jamya Saddler and Nakevia Phillips. Saddler scored 11 points, while Phillips. scored six points along with five rebounds.
SouthWest Edgecombe has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. As for Farmville Central, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.
SouthWest Edgecombe strolled past Farmville Central when the teams last played back in December of 2023 by a score of 55-37. Does SouthWest Edgecombe have another victory up their sleeve, or will Farmville Central turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
