Basketball Recap: First Baptist Academy Comes Up Short

First Baptist Academy was the 64-24 winner over Mt. Olive when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. First Baptist Academy were just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 49-48 to the Mt. Olive Wildcats.

Matthew Bywater was nothing short of spectacular for Mt. Olive: he dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. Bywater has been hot, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times he's played. Briley Viviano was another key player, putting up ten points and five rebounds.

First Baptist Academy has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. As for Mt. Olive, their victory bumped their record up to 4-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, First Baptist Academy and Dupo will shake off the cobwebs and square off against one another at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. As for Mt. Olive, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Litchfield at 7:15 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
