Recap: Verndale Pirates vs. Upsala Cardinals
The Verndale Pirates have been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell 69-62 to Upsala on Tuesday. Verndale has struggled against Upsala recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Upsala got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Dakota Soltis out in front who scored 22 points along with three steals. Soltis is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Zoey Leners, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Verndale's defeat dropped their record down to 15-6. As for Upsala, they now have a winning record of 11-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Verndale is on the road again on Thursday and plays Bertha-Hewitt at 7:30 p.m. on February 8th. As for Upsala, they will take on Swanville at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Minnesota (Upsala is ranked 252nd, while Swanville is ranked 266th).
