Softball Recap: Rocklin Takes Down Ranked Franklin

On Friday, Rocklin faced Franklin in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Everything went the Rocklin Thunder's way against the Franklin Wildcats as the Rocklin Thunder made off with an 11-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Thunder, who have now won five games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Payton Prior was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Katie Wetteland, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Sammie Snell also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Rocklin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.

Rocklin's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-0. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8.2 runs. As for Franklin, they moved to 8-2 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rocklin will take on Bella Vista at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Rocklin's pitching crew has only allowed one run per game this season, so Bella Vista's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Franklin, they will face off against Oak Ridge at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Oak Ridge will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Franklin surely won't give up without a fight.
