Basketball Game Preview: Cannon Cougars vs. Gaston Day Spartans + How To Watch

The Cannon Cougars will challenge the Gaston Day Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Cannon is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Concord Academy on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Cougars had to suffer through an 80-37 loss at the hands of the Eagles. The Cougars were down 68-32 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Braylen Weaks, who posted six points. The team also got some help courtesy of DJ Rogers, who put up 11 points and seven boards.

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Gaston Day over Lee Park Prep in every quarter on their way to victory on Thursday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Spartans blew the Knights out of the water with a 77-26 final score. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 44-14.

Gaston Day now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Cannon, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Cannon couldn't quite get it done against Gaston Day in their previous matchup back in November of 2024 as they fell 98-85. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
