Recap: Fort Bend Elkins Knights vs. Fort Bend Austin Bulldogs
After flying high against the Fort Bend Clements Rangers last Monday, the Fort Bend Elkins Knights came back down to earth. Fort Bend Elkins was outmatched by Fort Bend Austin at home and fell 78-32. While losing is never fun, Fort Bend Elkins can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 642nd, while Fort Bend Austin is ranked 50th).
Despite the loss, Fort Bend Elkins still got an impressive performance from Maddie Rhea, who scored 17 points. Rhea scored a full 53.1% of Fort Bend Elkins' points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Paris Anderson, who scored 9 points.
Fort Bend Austin's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Andrea Sturdivant led the charge by scoring 22 points along with 5 assists and 5 steals. Sturdivant is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Crystal Schultz was another key contributor, scoring 24 points along with 3 steals.
Fort Bend Elkins' defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Fort Bend Austin, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-1.
Fort Bend Elkins will head out on the road to face off against College Station at 7:20 p.m. on Thursday. College Station is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak. As for Fort Bend Austin, they will square off against Oak Ridge at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Oak Ridge is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
