Basketball Game Preview: Montgomery Vikings vs. Cardinal Newman Cardinals

The Montgomery Vikings will face off against the Cardinal Newman Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Montgomery is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Redwood just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 56-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Giants.

Meanwhile, Cardinal Newman had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21 points) and they went ahead and made it seven on Saturday. They enjoyed a cozy 52-37 victory over the Pumas. That's two games straight that the Cardinals have won by exactly 15 points.

Cardinal Newman pushed their record up to 16-5 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.9 points per game. As for Montgomery, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-6.

Montgomery beat Cardinal Newman 53-41 in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Will Montgomery repeat their success, or does Cardinal Newman have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
