Volleyball Preview: West Wilkes Blackhawks vs. East Wilkes Cardinals
The West Wilkes Blackhawks will venture away from home to face off against the East Wilkes Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
West Wilkes lost 3-0 to North Wilkes on Thursday. The Blackhawks haven't had much luck with the Vikings recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.
The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 25-13, 25-14.
East Wilkes won the last time they faced Wilkes Central and Gracelynn Whitt did her part to make sure it happened again. The Cardinals skirted past the Eagles 3-2 thanks in part to Whitt, who had 20 digs and three assists. She has been hot, having posted ten or more digs the last five times she's played.
East Wilkes wouldn't go down easily and took Wilkes Central into a fifth set where they got it done with a three-point win. The final score came out to 25-14, 25-16, 20-25, 20-25, 15-12.
The win made it two in a row for East Wilkes and bumps their season record up to 7-15. As for West Wilkes, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-10.
West Wilkes was able to grind out a solid victory over East Wilkes when the teams last played back in September, winning 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blackhawks since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
