Preview: Westfield Bulldogs vs. Yorktown Patriots
Westfield is 4-0 against Yorktown since November of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Westfield Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Yorktown Patriots at 7:00 p.m. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Westfield walked away with it. Everything went their way against Washington-Liberty on Friday as Westfield made off with a 30-7 win. Considering Westfield has won eight matchups by more than 22 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Even though Yorktown has not done well against South Lakes recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Yorktown pulled ahead with a 7-6 photo finish over South Lakes. The win was all the more spectacular given Yorktown's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia football rankings (they are ranked 88th, while South Lakes is ranked 32nd).
Yorktown's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chris Montecino, who picked up 130 receiving yards and a touchdown. Montecino was no stranger to the big play, connecting with a big catch that went for 69 yards. Another player making a difference was Hudson Greene, who threw for 311 yards and a touchdown.
Westfield is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for Yorktown, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-4.
Westfield skirted past Yorktown 20-17 in their previous meeting back in September of 2022. Will Westfield repeat their success, or does Yorktown have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
