Baseball Game Preview: Slippery Rock Rockets vs. Meadville Bulldogs

The Slippery Rock Rockets will head out to face off against the Meadville Bulldogs at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Slippery Rock will be strutting in after a win while Meadville will be coming in after a loss.

Slippery Rock took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over Grove City. The win continues a trend for the Rockets in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won three in a row.

Austan Runtas looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Doug Popovec was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI.

Slippery Rock hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Grove City struck out 12 times.

Meanwhile, Meadville didn't have quite enough to beat Cathedral Prep on Wednesday and fell 5-4. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meadville saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Henry Desantis-Biggs, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI.

Meadville's defeat dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Slippery Rock, their record is now 10-2.

Slippery Rock beat Meadville 3-0 when the teams last played back in May of 2022. Will the Rockets repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
