Caitlin Dumarce spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Addison Pavy was incredible, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Saylor Gray, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Swansboro was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 15-4 to South Central.
Swansboro saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Payton Jensen, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
West Carteret's victory bumped their record up to 17-3. As for Swansboro, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-12.
Swansboro's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. West Carteret has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 13.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Swansboro, though, as they've been averaging only 3.7 strikeouts. Will West Carteret keep running through batters, or will the Pirates buck the trend?
Everything went West Carteret's way against Swansboro in their previous meeting back in March, as West Carteret made off with an 11-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Patriots since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
