La Vernia has won five straight games at home (dating back to last season), while El Campo has won five straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Friday. The Bears will host the Ricebirds at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Friday, everything came up roses for La Vernia against Floresville as the squad secured a 49-7 victory. Considering the Bears have won six matchups by more than 34 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
It was another big night for TY CARTER, who rushed for 129 yards and four touchdowns on only ten carries. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 69 yards. COOPER NULL was another key player, rushing for 65 yards and one TD on only six carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: La Vernia was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 247 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 179 rushing yards in 17 consecutive games dating back to last season.

La Vernia didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as VINCENT CAPPARELLI, CADEN DIAZ, and BRYAR CRANE picked up one apiece. With that strong performance, CAPPARELLI is now averaging an impressive 5.6 total tackles per game. REMMINGTON ROHDE was another major factor on D, making 14 total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, while it was El Campo who put the first points on the board on Friday, it was Calhoun who put up more. The Ricebirds fell 35-31 to the Sandcrabs. The Ricebirds were up 14-0 in the first quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.
La Vernia's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for El Campo, their loss dropped their record down to 6-3.
Everything went La Vernia's way against El Campo when the teams last played back in November of 2024, as La Vernia made off with a 28-7 victory. Do the Bears have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Ricebirds turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
