Baseball Recap: Thunderbird Takes a Loss

Thunderbird dropped to 17-6 on Monday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They lost 18-12 to the Mesquite Wildcats. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Titans, who until this contest were averaging 3.48 runs allowed.

Tyson Gorder and Richard Voyce stepped up to the plate in a big way. Gorder went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, while Voyce went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Kolesar, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

As for Mesquite, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-15-1. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Mesquite's side, Khalid Mohamed got the start for Mesquite and what a start it was: he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave Mohamed a new career-high in strikeouts (two).

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Thunderbird will venture away from home to challenge Greenway at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mesquite, they will head out to take on Arcadia at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
