Preview: Byrd Yellow Jackets vs. Southwood Cowboys
Byrd is 9-0 against Southwood since October of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Byrd Yellow Jackets will look to defend their home field against the Southwood Cowboys at 5:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Last Friday, things could have been worse for Byrd, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 42-28 loss to Airline. Byrd has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Desmond Simmons, who rushed for 205 yards while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. Another player making a difference was Malachi Johnson, who rushed for 66 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Southwood, who are still winless after their eighth matchup. They were beaten by Captain Shreve 42-6 last Thursday. Southwood was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-0.
Byrd's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Southwood, their loss was their 16th straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-8.
Everything came up roses for Byrd against Southwood in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 58-0 victory. Does Byrd have another victory up their sleeve, or will Southwood turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
