Soccer Game Preview: Porter-Gaud vs. Fort Dorchester

Porter-Gaud hasn't had much luck against Fort Dorchester recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Cyclones will challenge the Patriots at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Porter-Gaud has six straight victories, Fort Dorchester has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the pitch.

Porter-Gaud had to skate by with only a one-goal margin when they last took the pitch, which might have inspired the ten-goal drubbing they dealt Northwood Academy on Thursday. The Cyclones' defense stepped up to hand the Chargers a 10-0 shutout. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for Porter-Gaud considering their one-goal performance the game before.

Meanwhile, Fort Dorchester didn't have quite enough to beat Ashley Ridge on Tuesday and fell 2-1. While losing is never fun, Fort Dorchester can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 60th, while Ashley Ridge are ranked third).

Porter-Gaud pushed their record up to 8-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 32 goals over those four contests. As for Fort Dorchester, their loss dropped their record down to 6-8.

Porter-Gaud came up short against Fort Dorchester in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, falling 2-0. Can the Cyclones avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
