Volleyball Recap: McCutcheon Comes Up Short

If McCutcheon was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Western Boone on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mavericks fell just short of the Harrison Raiders by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. While the Mavericks didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Raiders 25-21 in the first set.

McCutcheon wouldn't go down easily and took Harrison into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking three-point loss. The final score came out to 21-25, 25-20, 21-25, 25-19, 15-12.

Despite the defeat, McCutcheon saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lydia Weaver had 15 digs and three assists. Weaver has been hot recently, having posted ten or more digs the last three times she's played.

Kaylee Swihart was a one-woman wrecking crew For Harrison. as she had 19 digs and two aces. That's the most aces Swihart has posted over her last nine contests.

McCutcheon's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 8-8. As for Harrison, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 14-3.

McCutcheon has already played their next match, a 3-2 victory against Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger on the 20th. As for Harrison, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 defeat against Zionsville on the 20th.
