Basketball Game Preview: St. Pius X Sartans vs. Robertson Cardinals

Having just played yesterday, the St. Pius X Sartans will jump right back in to play the Robertson Cardinals at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

St. Pius X saw some tournament action on Thursday. They fell 61-50 to Manzano.

Meanwhile, Robertson had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They lost 69-44 to Belen on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Cardinals have suffered since January 30th.

St. Pius X will have to keep a close watch on Nathan Gonzales and Marcus Montoya, a pair of players who had a big impact on Robertson's prior game. Gonzales dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten rebounds, while Montoya shot 56% from the field on his way to 12 points and three steals. Gonzales is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last 13 games he's played dating back to last season.

St. Pius X was able to grind out a solid win over Robertson in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, winning 51-44. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Sartans since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
