Basketball Recap: Carson Janidlo's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Berlin Brothersvalley over Richland

After flying high against Perry Traditional Academy on Friday, Berlin Brothersvalley came back down to earth. The Berlin Brothersvalley Mountaineers came up short against the Richland Rams on Saturday, falling 84-59. The Mountaineers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 49-21.

Berlin Brothersvalley's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carson Janidlo, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards. The dominant performance gave Janidlo a new career-high in rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Joseph Richardson, who posted 13 points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Berlin Brothersvalley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Berlin Brothersvalley's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Richland, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Berlin Brothersvalley will challenge Meyersdale at 7:15 p.m. on January 6, 2025. As for Richland, they will venture away from home to face off against Bald Eagle Area at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Richland's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six games.
