Softball Preview: Highland Rebels vs. Trumann Wildcats

Highland and Trumann are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Highland Rebels will head out on the road to take on the Trumann Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

After soaring to 17 runs the game before, Highland was a bit more limited in their contest on Thursday. Their rough 19-2 loss to Brookland might stick with them for a while.

Meanwhile, Trumann waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Mustangs as they made off with an 18-1 win. 18 seems to be a good number for Trumann as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Faith Muntz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Muntz has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't pitched less than five innings in three consecutive pitching appearances. Muntz was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Macey Powell was incredible, scoring five runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Ellisabeth Holladay, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Highland has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season. As for Trumann, their win bumped their record up to 5-8.

Highland skirted past Trumann 6-4 in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Highland since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
