Baseball Recap: Lockport Takes a Loss

Saturday just wasn't the day for Lockport's offense. They fell just short of the Joliet West Tigers by a score of 2-0 on Saturday. Considering the last time the Porters couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.

Jack Schiek was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lockport saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Adam Kozak, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. Kozak is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

Lockport has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-8 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Joliet West, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-14.

Coming up, Lockport will square off against Bradley-Bourbonnais at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Joliet West, they will challenge Romeoville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
