Basketball Recap: Independence Comes Up Short

Independence lost against James Monroe back in April of 2021 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Independence Patriots fell just short of the James Monroe Mavericks by a score of 55-53.

James Monroe's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kadyn Hines, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 15 points along with five assists and four steals. Hines has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Brady Baker, who went 7 of 8 en route to 16 points.

Independence's defeat dropped their record down to 4-7. As for James Monroe, they pushed their record up to 13-2 with the victory, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Independence has already played their next game (against Princeton), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. James Monroe will face off against Greenbrier West at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. James Monroe is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.7 points per game this season.
