Baseball Game Preview: Elkhart Elks vs. Overton Mustangs

The Elkhart Elks will take on the Overton Mustangs at 9:00 a.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Elkhart made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Chapel Hill, but still couldn't quite topple them. Elkhart's pitcher stepped up to hand Chapel Hill a 9-0 shutout on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Elks, who have now won three contests by nine runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Coyt Cooper, who scored a run while going 3-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Denney, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

Elkhart was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Overton waltzed into their game on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They had just enough and edged out the Bulldogs 5-3.

Mason Rowe made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Rowe was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

Rowe wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Landon Hill, who scored a run while going 2-for-2. Jayden Edwards was another, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

Overton's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Elkhart, they moved to 3-5 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.
