Cody Vernich was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Hammond Academy of Science & Tech got the win against East Chicago Central on Saturday by a conclusive 9-1. Considering the Hawks have won ten games by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Tri-Township, Hammond Academy of Science & Tech also got a great game from a two-way player: Noah Michniewicz. That's the most strikeouts Michniewicz has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Anthony Concepcion was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with nine stolen bases and three runs. He has become a key player for Hammond Academy of Science & Tech: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Andrew Concepcion was another key player, going 1-for-3 with five stolen bases and two runs.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Tri-Township has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Hammond Academy of Science & Tech struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 11.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
